Bookstores are fun!
*shakes head*
Anyway, I went to Borders yesterday, after first stopping by Petco. Learned that when I whistle, the loudly screeching little parrots either hush or make different noises. Since it was Sunday, there were kittens outside in cages under an awning. "Planned Pethood".
Well, it started to rain. And the staff moved the kittens further under the awning. Some of them still got wet; there was wind, and the awnings aren't very big. And they mewed. Very, very cutely. I came up next to a cage, and the ones inside pressed up against the bars and mewed. Like my cats when forced to bathe, but higher-pitched and without so much scrambing. Very, very cute.
When the rain had slackened a bit, I went to Borders and read from page one-eighty-something to page four-ninety-eight of "When Darkness Falls". I want that book. I really do. Oddly enough, while the other two books in the triology were both bought quickly by the local library, they don't have this one, making it neccessary to read it in the store because I'm not paying twenty-six dollars on one book. I could buy three, and some lindor balls, for that much money.
It took about three hours. There are still pages left, and I need to finish the book. But man... the disorientation of reading so much for so long without other people interrupting... very intense. Haven't felt it like that since the last Harry Potter book!
It's like everything that wasn't relevant to the story was blocked out, didn't exist. Well, it did, but never as more than an aside. The book itself was not there, the pages were not there, I was not there. There was only the story. Very few authors can do this to me; Mercedes Lackey is one of them. Don't know about her coauthor for this series. But this universe is a fascinating one, and I wish it wasn't limited to three books.
I need to finish the story. I need to see how it ends.
