I remember when I was a tweenie. When I chose a book at a store or the library, I looked at the back.

There were many factors that featured in my choosings, but the one I remember I called the "chill factor".

Basically, if the insanely brief summary was "cool" enough, I would get goosebumps all over.

*shakes head*

Ahh, youth.

Now my criteria are... much more exacting, and I pick a lot of things that I would have passed over.

Like "the Lando Calrissian Adventures".

*shudder*

I wouldn't ever have picked it up if it wasn't a Star Wars novel. Ick.

But there've been plenty of better choices.

Anyway, though I've read plenty of books that I've enjoyed to varying degrees, there are a couple things that must be done before I can LOVE something. A book, a movie, a story, whatever.

Well, first it has to may me feel like crying and laughing. I live vicariously; it's good to feel emotion.

Second, it has to stick with me and make me think. That's important.

And third, it can't be Bad. You know; sloppiness, an unlikeable set of characters, so on.

That's why I like Star Wars. Revenge of the Sith made me laugh, made me cry, and I spent a long, long time straing into space and just wondering.

Well, I like SW for numerous other reasons, but computer time is restricted, LJ-luv.
